BY ROAD: Colchester is on the A12, M25 and A14 on the East of England region
BY AIR: Stansted (London's third international airport) is about 30 miles away by road via the A120 and A12. Coach and bus services run between Stansted and Colchester every hour during the day.
BY SEA Colchester is 20 miles from Harwich International Port follow the A120.
Historical Attractions
Colchester served as the first Roman capital of Britain, however it was attacked and destroyed during Boudica's rebellion in AD 61 and after the destruction, London became the capital of Roman Britain. Colchester is also noted for its Victorian architecture. Significant landmarks include the Colchester Town Hall and the Jumbo Water Tower.
Colchester Castle
Colchester Castle is an 11th century Norman keep built in the same style, but considerable larger in size, as the White Tower of the Tower of London. It was constructed on the foundations of the Roman Temple of Claudius which can still be seen today. It is classed as a Grade I listed building.
